Anjuna Police successfully busts interstate mobile phone theft gang during Sunburn Festival
Anjuna police have arrested an interstate theft gang operating inside the Sunburn 2023 event venue. The modus operandi was to target festival attendees and silently steal their high-end mobile phones while indulging in festival activities.
Since the beginning of Sunburn Festival 2023, several reports of mobile phone theft have surfaced, leading to deployment of undercover teams by Anjuna police to curb such incidents.
Police personnel successfully arrested and dismantled gangs in Maharashtra, including Ubedullah Khan, Owaiz Padaya, Sohail Memon, Abdul Rehman Khan, Saddam Ali Syed, Mohammad Zeeshan Khan and Sohail Shaikh. Seven people were arrested. They were booked under IPC section 379 r/w 34 for their involvement in theft.
The seized items consist of 29 high-end mobile phones of various brands, worth around Rs 100 crore. 25,00,000/-.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of SDPO Mapusa Jiba Dalvi and led by Anjuna PI Prashal Desai along with a team of police officers and constables from Anjuna police station. Investigation is ongoing under the guidance of Porvorim SP (North), IPS, SDPO Mapusa Jivba Dalvi and Nidhin Valsan.
