For people who want to become healthier, technology can be a valuable tool in achieving that goal. apple fitness plus It’s now easier than ever to complete your workouts at home. apple watch It helps you monitor your heart rate, estimate calories burned, track your sleep, track your progress, and stay in shape.
Apple delivers all of this with its usual level of style and sophistication. But it’s fair to say that when Apple Fitness Plus was first released, it was missing a few things, like the ability to stack workouts or no way to skip other workouts.
Many of these shortcomings have been resolved in whole or in part. The Apple Watch, which became Series 9, has also made great progress. However, we feel that Fitness Plus still has a lot of room for further improvement.
Enjoy custom plans with Apple Fitness Plus
For those unfamiliar, Apple Fitness Plus is an at-home workout platform that lets users choose from thousands of workouts, from running to weight training to yoga to meditation. There’s a lot to like about the package, and for those who find going to the gym a pain, it removes many of the barriers to exercise that you might otherwise face.
Although it offers a lot of features, one of the biggest gaps was the lack of guidance for users. Indeed, some carefully selected collections may last a week or a month. However, compared to some of the best home workout platforms, it lacked a long-term program to guide users. This meant it was very easy to choose the wrong workout for your goals and risk overtraining some muscles and undertraining others.
That’s why we were happy to see the rollout of iOS 17 and watchOS 10 bring Fitness Plus custom plans. Users will be able to enter a variety of personal settings, such as workout type, desired days of the week, and duration, and Fitness Plus will generate a plan that fits those criteria. This is a huge improvement and makes it much easier for users to choose the type of workout that suits them.
But while the Custom Plan is a great addition to Apple’s health and fitness offerings, I can’t help but feel like I want more from the Apple Watch in 2024.
Health monitoring limitations on Apple Watch
Now, I’m not saying the Apple Watch is bad at health monitoring. However, there are some areas that we would like to see improved.
Can the two become one?
Now, maybe not everyone feels particularly strongly about this, but it seems like a strange decision to put health and fitness metrics into two separate apps. Look, I see the logic behind it. If you’re focused on a “health” metric, go to that app. If you want to check out your workouts, you can find them under the “Fitness” app. Seems very wise.
Apart from that, almost every other smartwatch or fitness tracker brings all these metrics together under one roof. That way you can easily find what you need instead of jumping from one app to another.
For example, heart rate variability is a feature commonly measured by Garmin, Oura, Samsung, and Fitbit, to name a few. The Apple Watch also measures it, but it’s much harder to find than you might think. Does that apply to health and fitness?

More metrics and better insights
It’s not just the presentation. Apple Watch is a comprehensive smartwatch that offers features not found in many competing devices. But it comes at a cost.
Where Apple chooses to add features such as: double tap, its rivals are focused on better health and fitness insights. Devices like the Garmin Venu 3 (Garmin’s closest equivalent to the Apple Watch Series 9) offer many health and fitness tools that the Apple Watch doesn’t have. With features like Body Battery, sleep coaching, workout recovery and workout effectiveness reporting, fitness aging, VO2 estimation, and even wheelchair mode, it offers far more health monitoring features than the Apple Watch.
There’s an argument to be made that Garmin devices focus on health and fitness first, while Apple offers a more comprehensive smartwatch experience. And that’s understandable. But we’d like to see Apple close that gap in his 2024 and start offering better health and fitness insights than ever before.
Are there any new features?
2024 is the year of the Apple Watch X, so we wouldn’t be surprised if Apple is preparing to pull the proverbial rabbit out of the hat. After all, the iPhone X was a dramatic change from the previous generation. But what does that mean for the future of Apple Watch?
According to Bloomberg mark garman, Apple Watch X may come with some new health features, which would certainly be a step in the right direction. Garman claims in his report that the new Apple Watch could come with sleep apnea detection and blood pressure sensor technology. Both of these would be important advances for the Apple Watch.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch has had blood pressure monitoring for some time, but it requires periodic readjustment using a traditional cuff. If the Apple Watch could monitor blood pressure without having to monitor it, that could be a great addition to the device.
While this is encouraging, there are also conflicting reports. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo It suggests that Apple Watch X lacks “significant” innovations. If this turns out to be accurate, Apple could continue to fall behind in the health and fitness space. And we feel that this could be a mistake.
The Apple Watch Ultra series, the ultra-premium model of the Apple Watch series, also has additional complications and is certainly more likely to be the first to see new features.
Whatever the truth, the race for better and more accurate health monitoring remains fierce. And that’s one area Apple doesn’t want to fall behind.
