Bill Gates didn’t leave his Instagram followers confused about his year-end plans.
The 68-year-old billionaire ended 2023 by posting a photo of himself working on a jigsaw puzzle on Instagram on New Year’s Eve.
“The last thing I need to get done by 2024,” Gates wrote in the caption, alongside a photo of himself in a cozy setup at a table by a fireplace.
Gates has been open about his love for brain-stimulating activities such as puzzles and Wordle. “We do more jigsaw puzzles than most people,” he said in a 2018 PEOPLE interview with Bill and Melinda Gates before they divorced three years later.
The NYE moment came just days after the Microsoft co-founder reflected on how much time with his kids meant to him this year.
“It is a special joy to watch children grow up and become a source of priceless wisdom in their own right,” Gates wrote in his annual year-end blog post. “One of the highlights of my year with him was being able to share the stage with my youngest son Phoebe at his Foundation Goalkeeper event.”
In September, the 21-year-old Stanford University student, who has used his prominent family’s platform to advocate for a variety of issues, attended a panel discussion at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Goalkeeper Foundation in New York City. and served as the host.
In a blog post, Gates wrote that he asked his children, Jennifer Gates, 27, Rory Gates, 24, and Phoebe, “to explore how young people see the world and the latest trends on TikTok.” “It will let me know about trends,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to spending the holidays with them and recharging a little bit,” he added. “When I was a kid, I didn’t believe in vacations and weekends. But as I got older, especially after becoming a father, I realized there was more to life than work. ”
Gates also met several times this year with Paula Hurd, the widow of Oracle CEO Mark Hurd, who died in October 2019.
The pair were spotted together months before their relationship became public, sitting next to each other at the Laver Cup in September 2022 and the Australian Open in January 2023.
News of the relationship comes nearly two years after Gates and his ex-wife Melinda announced they were divorcing after 27 years of marriage.

One of the big highlights of 2023 was that Gates’ eldest daughter welcomed her first child into the world, a baby girl, and became a grandfather.
He went on to celebrate the joy of becoming a grandparent with a post on his Instagram page in honor of Grandparents Day in September. “Becoming a grandparent has given me a whole new lens through which to view the world,” he writes.
“What keeps me motivated is ensuring that my granddaughter, and all of our grandchildren, inherit a better world than the one they were born into,” the billionaire added. Ta.
