MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A thief crashes his car into a cell phone store near Orange Mound just hours after Christmas.
It happened early Tuesday morning on Park Avenue at South Highland Street.
“It’s driving your car through the door. Now they’re basically doing the same thing everywhere,” said a manager at Smooth Wireless.
It has become an all too common trend in the Bluff City.
Robbers have broken into various businesses and left chaos behind.
This time, thieves raided Smooth Wireless on Park Avenue.
“They did more damage to the door frame,” the store manager told FOX13.
The store manager did not want us to use his name to protect his identity.
He provided FOX13 with surveillance footage of the thieves driving into the store.
The video shows the silver car cracking the windshield door and backing up smoothly and wirelessly.
After a while, about 6 criminals rush in.
One by one, the thieves ransacked the store, taking everything they could.
Police said they stole iPhones, Android phones, karaoke speakers, electric scooters and other items.
The store manager said, “It’s unfortunate.”
According to the Memphis-Shelby Crime Commission, property crimes are up 26% compared to last year.
A manager at Smooth Wireless said in-store repairs would cost more than $25,000.
But he said they will remain open for customers.
“I feel like there’s too much going on around here. There’s definitely a lot going on in this neighborhood right now. We can’t stop shoplifters around here,” said the Smooth Wireless manager.
FOX13 reached out to Memphis Police for an update.
