Samsung Wallet, the app that allows users to store and manage cards, tickets, and coupons on their Samsung Galaxy smartphones, now has a new feature: Mobile Driver License and State ID. The company announced in October that it would bring the feature to Arizona and Iowa, but other than saying it would be “coming later this year,” it didn’t say exactly when it would roll out.
This feature increases convenience and security by eliminating the need for users to carry a physical card and the risk of losing or damaging it. Digital IDs are also encrypted and protected by fingerprint or PIN authentication, so only authorized users can access them.
However, this convenience is not limited to air travel. Samsung envisions a future where digital IDs can be used to verify age, enter age-restricted facilities, and even rent cars. Arizona is the first state to experience this revolution, but Samsung promises to add more states and features in the near future.
